our story

UWFC Board Members have softball experience reaching back to the early 90s. Having played fastpitch softball in leagues and for coaches that asked us to leave all other identities off the field, we knew we needed to do something different. We were tired of accepting leftover funding, dealing with last-minute organizing, and not being respected as experts in the game.

As adult athletes with decades of experience in competitive fastpitch softball, we knew that we deserved a say in how our league functioned. More importantly, we knew that each player has more to offer than just the skills they show on the field.

Having looked at the women in our softball community, it was clear that we had more than enough off-field talent to create and build a successful league that centers athletes. We knew that we could run a league that protects the safety of its players and focuses on its athletes as whole people. We quickly realized how important it is to all of us that we create more than just a fastpitch softball league.

We know that it’s the strong ties to our communities that maintain our resilience on and off the field. The passions and abilities we foster in our personal lives create incredible friendships.

We’ve created the coalition out of our desire to undermine the distinct challenges that face women, to love our communities from a place of influence, and to provide a space where care is given to the identities we hold most essential.
